5 Things to know about Abdominal Liposuction

Dr. Vi Sharma has worked in the field of cosmetic surgery

He has a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery, Monash University; and former member of the Australasian College of Aesthetic Medicine and the Royal Australian College of General Practice.

In the Liposuction treatment which is also known as Lipoplasty process a suction technique to remove fat from specific areas of the body. It can be abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms or neck and also it contour the that area of body. The following are the top 5 things you should know about this increasingly popular and common plastic surgery procedure.

What makes an ideal candidate for promotion?

The best candidates for liposuction surgery are healthy individuals at or near their goal weight. There are also non-smokers. Ideal patients have stubborn subcutaneous fat, in which the fat is located between the muscle and the skin, and not visceral fat, in which the layer of fat is located under the muscle layer around the abdominal organs.
In addition, before recommending liposuction, surgeons will evaluate the condition of a potential patient’s skin. Patients with good skin elasticity are good candidates for liposuction, while patients with loose skin or cellulite are not, as these conditions can result in uneven or dimpled skin.

How much fat will be removed?

There is a limit to how much fat can be removed (results may vary for every person and its not guarenteed) without an overnight hospital stay. This amount is five liters, which is roughly the equivalent of 10 pounds.
Whenever possible, this amount of fat will be removed. But sometimes it is not possible to remove five liters. Some of the reasons to stop liposuction before removing five liters of fat include:
The desired result was achieved before reaching five liters
If you don’t have five liters of fat in the treated area the treated area will begin to bleed
It can be difficult to estimate in advance how much fat will come out. It is sometimes possible to remove very large amounts of fat from relatively lean individuals. Conversely, it can sometimes be surprisingly difficult to remove fat from an individual who appears to have enough to reach the five liter limit.

What stomach liposuction does not do

Although liposuction treatment in Sydney is used to remove fat, it is not a weight loss solution. Liposuction works best on fat deposits that are concentrated in certain areas and resistant to exertion, especially in the abdomen, thighs, hips and buttocks. You might lose a little weight, but it probably won’t be significant. Liposuction will also not correct a bulging stomach that is caused by weakness in the abdominal wall, and it will not tighten loose skin. However, to tone and flatten the abdominal area, liposuction is sometimes combined with abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, in which fat is removed from the abdomen, the muscle wall is repaired, and excess skin is removed.

How does a patient prepare for liposuction?

Plastic surgeons or Experts will provide instructions for the days before liposuction. In general it is most important to get a supportive friend or family member who can help drive to and from the surgery center and assist with post-op care. Some medications, such as aspirin and blood thinners, may need to be stopped before the procedure. In some cases, a blood test is done beforehand to ensure that the client is a good candidate for anesthesia. Finally, on the day of the operation, there will be a period when one must not eat or drink; this is usually about 12 hours before the appointment time.

What happens during the procedure? How is it done?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that involves making small incisions in the skin and inserting an instrument called a cannula into the fat pocket. This cannula is connected to a suction device or syringe for fat extraction. This is usually an outpatient surgery, so while patients may be put under general anesthesia, they can often go home the same day as surgery.
As more and more people commit to a healthy lifestyle and look for ways to achieve their ideal, liposuction is often an excellent and cost-effective way to achieve these goals. A better understanding of this popular procedure can help patients receive the correct treatment and care.
